Jake and Ellie met through Delta Sigma Pi, a co-ed professional business fraternity at University of Nebraska - Omaha. After spending a weekend with Jake and other brothers in Indianapolis for a conference, Ellie knew that Jake was someone special. They became "Facebook Official" on December 1, 2010.

Jake and Ellie bought a house together in November of 2015 where they still live with their pride and joy, Mickey, a troublesome yorkie. They love their families for their support of the marriage, and love their friends for supporting their relationship for so long (close to 7 years before they wed!).

On February 13, 2017, Jake surprised Ellie by proposing marriage at their home! She thought he was moving her Valentine's Day present, so she had her eyes closed. Then Jake told her to open them, and he was kneeling before her with a stunning rose gold ring! They then went over to the Godwin house where their families toasted to their engagement. After, they all went for dinner at Louie's Wine Dive.

Jake and Ellie were married in an intimate ceremony in Orlando on October 11, 2017, joined by their parents and siblings. They are planning to have a wedding reception in Omaha on March 10, 2018 to celebrate the marriage with family and friends.
